O God, who art the author of peace and lover of concord, in knowledge of whom standeth our eternal life, whose service is perfect freedom: Defend us, thy humble servants, in all assaults of our enemies; that we, surely trusting in thy defense, may not fear the power of any adversaries; through the might of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
athanasius96
“surely trusting in thy defense…through the might of Jesus Christ our Lord.” Most of the prayer flows easy, but that part requires a bigger leap of faith. Jesus defends us with the power of love. We are not being defended from hurt, but something much greater. We may wish for no pain, but his strength is cruciform. Only then does the power of resurrection shine.

This fits well with the passage I’m speaking on in Acts where Peter speaks with ‘boldness.’ In Acts 4 following being threatened to stop talking about Jesus he doesn’t pray that life gets easier or the opposition back off, but rather he prays for boldness to keep speaking the word.
