A Prayer for the City

We prayed this for Springfield last year during an Epiphany prayer service (find it here). You can adapt it as you pray for your town or city.

Lord, we pray for the flourishing of Springfield

From you, O Lord.

We pray for the lasting peace of this city

From you, O Lord.

We pray for wisdom and compassion for the leaders in this city

From you, O Lord.

We pray for comfort for families separated or grieving

From you, O Lord.

For release of those trapped in cycles of violence

From you, O Lord.

For safety and security for women and children

From you, O Lord.

For refreshment for the weary and healing for the sick

From you, O Lord.

For continuing faithfulness of the churches of this city

From you, O Lord.

For tenacity of spirit for small Christian groups

From you, O Lord.

For the mutual enrichment and support of those of different Christian traditions

From you, O Lord.

You, Lord of all, we confess;

You, Lord Jesus, we glorify;

For you are the life of our bodies

And you are the Savior of our souls.
